Exploring the World with a Boeing 747

The Boeing 747 is an iconic aircraft that has been around since 1969, and it has taken people to some of the most incredible places on Earth. From soaring over the Himalayas to plunging into the depths of the Pacific Ocean, this plane has seen it all. Let's take a look at some of the most interesting places a Boeing 747 has flown.

Mount Everest

Standing tall at 8,848 meters (29,029 feet), Mount Everest is one of the most awe-inspiring sights in nature. In 2005, British Airways flew their 747-400 over this majestic peak as part of their 'Flight to the Roof of the World' campaign. This flight was also used to raise money for UNICEF.

The North Pole

In 1989, Pan Am became pioneers when they sent their 747-100 on a special charter from Anchorage to London via the North Pole. The flight was filled with VIPs and celebrities who were eager to experience this unique journey. After taking off from Anchorage, they flew over Canada before heading north towards Greenland and then finally reaching their destination.

The South Pole

The South Pole is even more remote than its northern counterpart and only a few commercial flights have ever made it there. In 2011, Qantas became one such airline when they sent their 747-400 on a special charter from Sydney to Santiago via Antarctica. After taking off from Sydney, they flew over Antarctica before continuing on towards Santiago.
